AT COMMANDS are used to design a SMS gateway that can easily communicate with the GSM modem. For proper interaction this system will have a user friendly graphical interface. This in turn will connect with the modem using protocol like HTTP and others.

This system is highly advanced and it is designed with several objectives like to receive and send SMS to mobile device using the computer system.

In this system the computer will be connected to the GSM modem in order to provide smooth efficiency of message transferring. It will also enable to study the AT commands as well as their implementation in GSM modems.

Another aim of this system is to create a GUI based application for receiving and sending messages. It also helps to store messages in the computer’s memory. 

To receive and send message using the GSM modem SMS gateway is the most effective mean and we can send SMS only from those computers that are connected to a GSM mode. At commands are used for this purpose and recently the study and its implementation is done successfully.

Receiving SMS is only possible if we have GSM modem and usually mobile phones do not work on this formula of GSM modem. For more features enhancement is necessary to made in the GUI system. We can now send and receive MMS and also add contact details, etc.

GSM subscriber telephony services:

Under this, the services are ability to make and receive calls to fixed and mobile subscribers all over the world, DTMF, emergency calls, FAX, SMS, cell broadcast.

CME 20 in GSM supports some supplementary services which can compliment and modify both tele services and bearer.

Call forwarding includes call forwarding on MS not reachable, call forwarding on MS busy, call forwarding on no reply, call forwarding unconditional. There are three kinds of call barring namely barring of all outgoing calls, barring of all outgoing international calls, barring of all outgoing international except those directed to home PLMN. Call hold is a supplementary service which is used to interrupt the ongoing call and make secondary calls without disconnecting first call. 

Basic building blocks of GSM:

A cellular mobile system consists of Mobile Station (MS), Base Station (BS), Mobile Services Switching Centers (MSC), Operation and Maintenance Centre (OMC). GSM is broadly divided into switching system (SS) and Base Station System (BSS). Each of these contains functional units. The Switching System (SS) includes Mobile Services Switching Centre (MSC), Visitor Location Register (VLR), Home Location Register (HLR), Authentication Centre (AC), and Equipment Identity Register (EIR). The BSS includes Base Station Controller (BSC), Base Tran receiver Station (BTS).

Voice Enabling System for Blind People Using GPS Project Abstract

If we want to go to a function at a not so known place and we don’t know anything about that place like culture, language etc. what we would do, it would be extremely difficult to reach our desired destination. This is a problem faced by all of us regularly, most of the cases we lose our way which would lead to loss of precious time, energy and money. For most of us, who are normal and healthy at least can reach the destination somehow but for some unfortunates like the blind people finding a location becomes an extremely tedious process. They will be in need of continuous help and companionship till they reach their desired destination.

To overcome all this problems there are numerous global positioning system or commonly known as GPS satellites revolving around the earth, which gives continuous updates on where we are and where we are heading. There will be GPS receivers installed or with a person which will receive signals from the satellite and helps the user to navigate to their desired location.  These receivers are actually embedded systems and are loaded with software to read and display signals in a graphic map format, most of these receivers will also have a sound output where a voice will be telling our exact position and how much distance is to go before the preferred destination.

It would be of extreme help for blind people as they would be navigated with the help of the voice instruction coming from the audio output, now they can go anywhere they can without anybody’s help and assistance. All they would need to do is turn on the device and just say the place to go; the device would then calculate the distance and the route to that specific place:

The main component of the embedded system is the microcontroller; there would be an in built GPS antenna which captures signals and give it to the GPS receiver which would be attached to the microcontroller. There would be also sensors determining ultrasonic sounds, obstacles, altitude etc. A power supply unit will be there for supplying energy. The voice output is provided through a built in speaker

A Remote Home Security System Based On Wireless Sensor Network and GSM Technology Project Report


This paper elaborates the working of the home security alarm system developed by employing WSN and GSM technology. WSN technology has the capability to detect object information in dangerous conditions. By using GSM networks we can transfer information to large distances. A system  software is developed in C51 which sends and receives data, and at the same time gives an alarm when a dangerous condition is encountered. Zigbee is used for wireless communication of the devices connected in a area. Zigbee technology is employed because it is highly transmission efficient and it can send signals without any attenuation during the time of gas leaking and fire attacks. MSP430F135 microcontroller used as it as it as low power consummating device.

System architecture:

The WSN has an data collecting unit which converts the sensor signals and sends to the processing unit, where the information gets processed and is placed on a wireless network for transmitting. A wireless control unit interconnects both GSM module and WSN center node module so that messages given by the WSN is sent to GSM module. The GSM module uses the GPRS networks for transmitting messages to the mobile phones. A target detection algorithm is employed for effective elimination of environment changes.

Applications and future scope;

This type of models are used in industries, companies , banks and homes for detecting the security threats. This can send the message within a few seconds after the detection of threat. The time taken for the threat detection is a bit slow so certain new algorithms are to be employed for fast detection of targets. Thus we can conclude that this model is useful to prevent the sudden occurring threats.
