Designing a Database System for Tourist Application

PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT:

The purpose of the project is to develop a distributed database system for tourist application by utilizing the knowledge and skills gaining from this subject. This project is chosen to enhance the technical skills that are acquired from lectures and lab exercises; every phase of this project includes implementation of various programming aspects of the subject. Working on this of project gives us a better experience that can be used in developing real time projects in coming future.

This project is nothing but developing a distributed database system for tourism/tourist application. Various phase of this project involves a database with several tables linked and has tourist information and in phase two we will be developing a standard web page that linked to the tourist database to retrieve tourist information. (As the knowledge and time is limited we will be making this project to satisfy the requirements of this subject, any additional features can be added later on).

EXISTING SYSTEM:

In present scenario, a customer has to visit various agencies and offices to plan a tour. The customer has to make reservations for travel and accommodation. The customer may have to collect information from various sources. It takes a lot of time to plan a tour and often the data may not be up to date.

PROPOSED SYSTEM:

The proposed system maintains a centralized repository of all related information such as tour packages, places, hotels and enables one to make reservations for various transportation modes. The system provides all the help and information that a customer generally requires. The system allows one to browse through all the details and information.

MODULES:

The system has been identified to be presented with the following modules:

Tours, Flight Reservation, Hotel Reservation, Local Transportation reservation, Administration

Tours:

Organizing a tour involves many things, which includes flight reservation, accommodation reservation and local transportation booking. As a package of all these things, a tour package will be offered to the customers.

This module deals with managing everything as a package.

Flight Reservation:

This module only deals with flight reservation and it is specific to the users who would want to avail the flight reservation separately.

Hotel Reservation:

This module deals with accommodation reservation. It is specific to the users who would want to avail hotel reservation separately.

Local Transportation reservation:

The administration module centralizes all activities to be done in this application. Work done last semester:

Last semester we accomplished the phase A of our project. We finalized on “A Search Result Ranking Algorothm for web pages” as our BE Project. A number of IEEE papers were referred to and various web sites were visited in order to obtain sufficient knowledge about the topic. This lead to a proper Literature survey for the project. A presentation was made, which gave a brief of the existing algorithms used and a description of the proposed system. The presentation also included

Then an IEEE paper was drafted which contained the abstract , the concept giving a brief idea of the project followed by the explanation and the conclusion inferred from our literature survey. Finally a book report was compiled based on the information in the IEEE paper, the presentation and other data collected.

What are we doing in current semester:

In this semester implementation of the project is to be carried out. The technologies planned to be used are SeoQuake toolbar, Winweb Crawler, Javascript, PHP, MySQL and HTML. A final draft of the IEEE paper will be made and sent to the various conferences (both national and international). Also the presentation will be modified to include the implementation part of the project. The frontend will include a User Interface designed using HTML and PHP. The Winweb crawler will be used for crawling web pages online (restricting the search for only a few keywords). The SeoQuake toolbar will then be used for Keyword density. The proposed ranking Algorithm (SCAR)will be created using javascripts. The database connectivity will be done using PHP. The database used will be MySQL.

Issues we’re working on now: 

We are currently working as to hoew we have to sync the available tools and our ranking algorithm

So the ranking problem becomes the important task for the search Systems. This gives a new viewpoint on how to improve the quality of information retrieval. On studying the various ranking algorithms, and analyzing their merits and demerits, a new search ranking algorithm based on Web pages and Tag clustering, and using several evaluating methods to assess and contrast with Google can be presented..

This project have two registration options one for alumni and other for current students, the profile of alumni can be viewed by registered students and as per the interest of the students, alumni and students can make connection links and view each other’s profiles this will help students in career counseling. Restaurant Management System in PHP

The project  named  “Restaurant Management”  is based on the Multi Site Concept. This project is done with Reference to many Restaurant based websites. My Restaurant website is named with the Domain called  ERR where err refers (Easy Restaurant Registration). This project or website will be with more functionalities and flexible to use for the clients.

Public User:

The website will have public user interface and admin user interface module.

Admin User:

The admin user will able to update the home page content and inner pages content.

We will provide the links and will do basic static pages content update at once.

Later admin user will have an option to update the content them self.

ERR Admin:

ERR admin will be satisfying the clients issues after development of the website. As

though we are providing the sub-domain for the clients to get registered their website.

Indeed  they couldn’t do dynamically.

Functional Requirements:

The ERR website will have option for the users to login and change their contnet or menus for their registered website

Admin user can login to access ERR website and the admin panel will have privilege    settings and rights for their profile settings.

Master List

We should provide option for the Admin user of the restaurant to create a “Master List”. The    master list never gets deleted unless it is deleted forcibly by the Admin User. Master List will        contain the master copy of all the menu items (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Drinks). If the menu     item in the Breakfast menu is removed for some

Reason, it will remain in the master list so that in future if that same menu item is added back to Breakfast they can easily retrieve it and use it in that Menu easily instead of creating it from

scratch again. In the admin panel, we will provide a separate menu to access this Master List.

Dynamically manage the Menus

  • Website administrator will be able to manage the Dynamic Menus.
  • To provide option for the admin user to dynamically manage the Menus.
  • The admin user needs to be able to add to the learn drop down. For example, some places have additional menus such as a “Cheese Menu” or “Snacks Menu.” Therefore, they need to be able to add menus to the learn drop down. Can we add a learn drop down option called “manage menus”?
  • Selecting “manage menus” allows the user to delete menus and add menus and edit menus so the learn tab only shows what that restaurant has.
  •  For example, if a restaurant doesn’t serve breakfast, they should be able to delete breakfast from the learn drop down. If they serve cheese and there’s a separate menu just for cheese in their restaurant, they should be able to create a selection in the learn drop down called “Cheese” or whatever they want to call it. So, may be the learn drop down only has three options when they first begin using the site, before it’s populated with their information: “All Menu Items” (this is the master list), “Manage Menus,” and “Staff.”
  •  Clicking “manage menus” takes the user to a screen that allows him to create the name of a menu, edit the names of menus that already exist, or delete menus. Deleting menus doesn’t delete all of the menu items within the menu because they still exist within the master list.

Add/Edit – Restaurant profile logo.

  • To provide option for the Admin user to add their profile logo.
  • I want an admin user to be able to add their own logo to the top of their restaurant’s page, next to the black and white RR logo. When there’s no logo added, it will be a clean looking box with the words “add your logo” inside of it. Clicking it will prompt the user to add a photo, giving him whatever options you think are best: choose from file, url, etc
