Seminar Report on Shallow Water Acoustic Network

Introduction to Seminar Topic on Shallow Water Acoustic Network:

Unlike radio communication radio waves are used for communication similarly in these acoustic waves are used in under water communications.  Their magnitude is less than five times of radio waves. This increases the latency of the packet data. These types of network are called Autonomous Ocean Sampling Network (AOSN). We basically use three types of topology for creating such network like centralized, distributive and multi-hop.  Centralize topology is used for connecting the central station and the nodes. Distributive topology is used for connecting peer to peer connection to providing point to point connection between every node of the network. Multi-hop topology is used for connection between all the surrounding nodes.

They use two types of methods for routing through network like virtual circuit routing and data gram switching. In virtual switching packet follow the same path and they are allowed to pass through different paths, while datagram is used for routing decision and to determine the next hop of the packet.

These networks are used by the U.S. Navy’s for experimenting Telesonar and Sea web program.  Telesonar is used to link the digital network and mobile nodes. This is used to maintain the flexibility, ability, energy efficiency and security. Sea web is the autonomous nodes that are used to collect the data from the sensor nodes and then forward it to the gateways and then receive the same.

This network is also considered as Ad Hoc network that used preliminary connections autonomously. They use media access protocol for sea web that is based on the MACA which uses R CTS-DATA exchange. If the source does not receive the signal then it repeats the CTS and if it again doesn’t receive the signal then it returns to the low power state.
