White Collar Crime Seminar Report

Introduction to White Collar Crime:

A white collar crime means a crime carried out by a person of high social reputation during his serving period or he being employed. Nowadays, the white collar crime is viewed as a socio-economic position of the person carrying out the crime. Many people feel that white collar crime is not a condemnable crime as compared to other violent crimes. As this sort of crime is carried out by people belonging to greater socio-economic background, they have the opportunity to hire better lawyers to defend them. Whereas the people belonging to lesser socio-economic status fail to hire a private lawyer due to which they have to depend on a public prosecutor.

Edwin Sutherland is the person who created the term ’white-collar crime and he debated that corporate and governmental officials constantly carry out crimes that are as detrimental to the society as the violent blue-collar crimes. The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) is an eminent organization in US initiating the task of the nation’s criminal defense lawyers to safeguard justice and punish the people charged of crime or other misbehavior. Similarly, the task of National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) is to offer training, examination support and investigation to departments and individuals concerned with the prohibition, inspection and execution of economic and high-level crime.

White collar crimes can be executed at the state or federal level, relying upon the violation of a state or federal law. If found guilty, the person would serve a jail term, pay large fines and compensate to the victims suffered by the crime. Finally, it is concluded that unless the people stand against it united, the white collar crimes cannot be curbed.

Colloquium Report on Web Based Operating System

Introduction to Web Based Operating System:

A Web Operating System refers to a user interface (UI) which lets the people in accessing applications that are stored fully or partially on the web. It doesn’t connect directly with the hardware of the computer but it may copy the user interface of conventional computer operating systems such as Windows. The availability of a conventional OS is compulsory on a computer. Web OS rely upon the conventional operating systems to function so they can’t substitute the computer’s fundamental OS.

The user side of Web OS software runs on the computer’s OS irrespective of it being a Web browser or a system-specific client. The Web OS is designed to look and perform quite similar to that of a desktop OS, by the programmers. Though it looks similar to a conventional OS, yet it doesn’t regulate computer’s software or hardware.

The main uses of Web OS include its simple and easy to carry from one place to other because of its light weight. No software is required by the user and he is not the administrator as the application’s programmer plays the role of an administrator. Moreover it allows every user to use a new version of any OS at once and the application lies at a single place.

Outcome of study:

On the whole, it can be concluded that technology has advanced beyond our expectations. This can be proved by the fact that OS can be used without it being present in our desktop. After covering various aspects of Web OS, it is found that Web OS is an amazing program which can be easily operated and researched. The benefits and functions of Web OS can be appreciated by the users, once they get used to it. It is christened to be a personal desktop for the generations to come.

Ad hoc On Demand Distance Vector (AODV)

Route discovery in AODV

Whenever a node needs to communicate with other nodes across the network, it configures few parameters and attributes as discussed. First step followed in this case is that, the source node check its routing table to find an entry with the destination IP address and if it could find the same, simply it used the routing information from the table and closes the communication process. If the source node could not find any entry in its routing table it follows the below sequence of steps to proceed with the communication.

  • RREQ message is created with few attributes like hop count to destination, source IP address, destination IP address, sequence numbers of source and destination and a unique broadcast ID
  • Source node broadcasts the RREQ message and waits for some time by counting the time with a timer
  • Now all the nodes which receive the RREQ message, check the message ID and compares with the existing messages and if they could find that, this message is already processed, they simply discard the message
  • If any receiver find that this message is unprocessed, it checks the destination IP address and compare with the routing information of their own tables. If the receiver is the destination, message is processed and if the receiver has a available route to the destination IP address, it simply forwards the message towards the route it has in the table.
  • Whenever the receiver processes the RREQ message it replies to the source in form of a Unicast message RREP. Now the source maintains the IP address of the nodes which delivered this message for the further usage.

Moodle Project Management

Moodle course home pages are in default arranged in a three-column format. The two outside columns are called Moodle calls blocks which are made up of small boxes. These boxes provide the information for the student to know wherever they are in their course. The information displayed contains of navigation menus, calendar information, latest news, which else is online and so on. The availability of types of blocks in Moodle is large and can be moved and arranged to our flexibility.

The main course content and activities are arranged in the middle column. The middle column is in turn divided into a number of topics. This helps us to organize the content into sections depending on the topic containing a related group of resources and activities such as web pages, quizzes, files and links. A unnumbered Summary topic is fixed at the top of the home page in the Moodle system. The course title and introductory course-level information is placed in this top part and is also referred to as the course ‘header’. All topics are displayed on the home page as a column by default.

It may be difficult to navigate in a large course so the topics can be hidden by clicking the square in the top right of the topic area. This hides the other topics and provides a Jump to drop down box to access them. A click on the double-box icon in the top right restores the original layout. Clicking on the menu items and links will help you move around Moodle.

A Navigation bar just below the Moodle banner shows you where you are and helps you to get back to the home page, as it is quiet easy to get lost in a large course. Breadcrumb trails of hyperlinks back to previous screens are displayed in the Navigation bar. A click on the second link from the left returns us to the course home page.

Moodle High School E-Learning Portal

E-Learning has taken many technical shifts and has become a powerful tool to integrate all the classrooms from different parts of the world at a single place and the recent technical advancement found across E-learning is Moodle. Moodle is E-learning software that runs completely on a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) with high technical brilliance.

There are almost 250 service providers for SOA based E-learning environment and in that around 40 are open source softwares and the most popular among them is Moodle (Modular Object Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment). Web service based software development is embedded with Moodle environment and in the recent year’s web services has become more popular in terms of providing ample flexibility in usage of pre-defined functions and methods to create software. Simple methods are created and distributed in a manner such that, even different programming languages and operating systems can make use of these web services and even the organizations can exchange pieces of software in terms of these web services.

As E-learning includes requirements from different students and presenters with respect to different subjects, always a distributed application software is required to cover all these requirements and a perfect web service oriented approach is the best solution for this and thus web services has a wide role to play across the web services. Moodle provides a wide range of web services and tips to develop a good E-learning website and the desired components can be added comfortably by the developers.

E-Learning Website Features

E-Learning Website provides various excellent features and is also referred as Course Management System (CMS) or Learning Management System (LMS) in most of the cases. Following are few good features provided by Moodle

  • Databases
  • Assignments
  • Charts
  • Resources
  • Wiki
  • Lessons
  • Quizzes
  • Surveys
  • Forums
  • Chats
  • SCORM
  • Surveys

Moodle can run on any platform without any modifications to the existing Operating System framework and can runs with the support of PHP and a single database and data goes across this database. In this modern higher education system everyone is using internet, so the moodle learning system is increasing day by day and it become an important part of the strategy for online delivering and flexible e-learning. The main aspect of this learning system is giving opportunity for students to interact with their teacher through e-mail and chat rooms. Now a day’s Moodle is getting worldwide popularity for its leaning system.

The word Moodle was originally an acronym for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment, which is mostly useful to programmers and education theorists. It’s also a verb that describes the process of lazily meandering through something, doing things as it occurs to you to do them, an enjoyable tinkering that often leads to insight and creativity.

As such it applies both to the way Moodle was developed, and to the way a student or teacher might approach studying or teaching an online course. Anyone who uses Moodle is a Moodler. The project is regarding the development of a self learning system for the supplementary school. The web application on the home page displays the various events that occurred in the school and the contact information. The home page provides information on a general purpose need to know basis. The home page does have the login windows with the tabs named login id and password. The students of the school will be given specific login ids and passwords with the help of which they can log in into the system.

Only the students who are currently associated or enrolled in the school can login into the system and access it. Once the student logs in into the system he is provided the facility to track his academic performances. He can contact or ask for doubt clearances with the respective teachers through chat sessions that can be booked on prior hand. Groups of students can form communities and share their interests on the various topics. The student is also provided with the information of competitive examinations and the programs that provide scholarships. The system on the whole will provide a whole new experience of learning and interaction among the students.

Problems In E-learning System

Lack of plain English usage

In general across the E-learning process, the common problems would be usage of English. As the process of E-learning is completely online based, different listeners and presenters are accommodated on a single online platform, there would be lot of cultural and language problems while gathering together on a single lesson.

If the English used by presenter is tough and not able to understand by a set of listeners, the overall flow of the E-Learning process is affected a lot in most of the cases.  If the listeners come up with some queries across the session, those queries may not be understand by other listeners and even presenters in some cases and thus the objective of E-Learning process is completely affected.

Benefits and Limitations of E-Learning

Limitations of E-learning are classified into three types and they are technological limitations, personal issues and limitations compared to traditional campus. The other limitations that do not come into these three limitations are indicated as the other limitations.

Technological Limitations:

One of the important technological limitations in E-learning is the necessary requirement of the needed resources and computer hardware. Students always should carry desktops or laptops and even the cost of hardware is considered as the main limitation to this type of learning systems and that’s why small and medium level companies does not take the risk of E-learning to train their employees. Access to the networked computers all the time is another major drawback of E-leaning system and if any of the learners or staff members are disconnected from the network, continuity of the learning process is affected a lot and in some cases, other listeners are also affected if one of them is disconnected from the network.

Even E-learning is facilitated 24 hours all the 7 days a week, there are few cases, where learners from rural areas cant be accessible to internet in week ends and they miss few important concepts. In general, E-Learning systems are accessed via in built graphic and only few browsers support these features and if learners are not aware of the technical browser settings, it takes some time to catch the flow of the lessons and thus the overall continuity of the learning process is affected a lot.  In most of the cases, multimedia application and material are embedded in the E-learning websites and if the internet connection is slow at some places, downloading the multimedia material would affect the E-learning process a lot.

E-Learning process includes high definition online videos and if the transfer rate of the interne is limited to the bandwidth constraints, video streaming would become very slow and thus few learners may be affected with the slow streaming rate. Always a broadband internet service is required at the listeners end to follow the classes on video conference and end users at the rural areas are not facilitated with broadband services and thus their learning process is affected a lot.

Personal limitations:

The learners who are new to e-learning requires some preparation because they will be in a opinion that e-learning is similar to traditional learning but the fact is that e-learning is a non-traditional learning. Even the new learners may some times divert from e-learning because of lack of proper knowledge on what to do and how to proceed, this is because of the reason that no teacher will guide them in using the e-learning. Non-traditional learning like e-learning can be used by the new comers when they are educated with some orientation courses. This indicates that there is a necessity of preparation for the new learners to use e-learning .

The other limitation of E-learning is lack of information technology skills and communication technology skills in the learners. Learners should have skills of information technology and other technology in order to use e-learning because e-learning is a product enhanced from the technology. ICT skills in the learner help the learner to learn efficiently .

E-learning students get irritated because of the technical skills because they suffer from exceptional environment of E-learning and also because of isolation from others. Students may have different levels of knowledge some may have good skills and some may have less skills this may be the reason for the isolation problems. Therefore it is evident that learning new skills will be disadvantage for e-learning particularly for information technology and communication technology learners.

Concept of E-Learning in Present Decay

E-learning is popular in the entire world, the reason why it is popular is addresses in the overview. The concept of e-learning is discussed in this section.

Definition of e-learning: Various researchers have defined e-learning as “learning various activities and improving communication by using computers and networks i.e through electronic technology”. The other definition for e-learning is “the creation of knowledge and delivery of knowledge through online services in terms of education, communication, training and information”.

Researchers refers that e-learning is a kind of collaborative learning, in other ways called self-directed education that is based on the web-based technology. This indicates the importance of web- based technology and internet in e-learning . E-learning can also be defined as the “use of web and digital technologies and internet to attain facility of learning for the human beings”.

E-learning also requires multimedia along with the web-based technologies. Therefore, communication technology and information technology are focused mainly in E-learning. In order to develop the efficiency and learning performance e-learning is based on the information technology. Using the technology in E-learning is very much essential for the learners to educate him by using two-way video, cable, internet, satellite downlinks and two-way interaction of computer.

By using information and communication technology users can learn various activities like learning from e-mail, coaching through e-mail, online discussions and online research. So E-learning is also defined as the learning of various activities by using computers, multimedia technologies and networks.
