Advantages of School websites

Question may come into our minds why to have a website for a school when all the updates have been shared with all the students accordingly as and when needed. There are many advantages of having school website.

Assume when we have missed some important event communication that have been communicated already, we will not be provided with any source to update it as and when you needed it. In addition, when you get a doubt related to any topic while studying professors cannot be available to you at home or any other place out of the school campus as and when you get a doubt.

All the points will matter and this is how we can get rid of such issues, which will have a critical impact at times .Also maintaining the data related to each student, is a tedious process if we maintain it in some books.

More over whenever we what to fetch the profile of any student we need to waste time searching all the books. All these problems can be solved by maintain a simple website and inserting all the students’ data in a database.

Requirements for E Learning System

E learning in general includes many requirements from different aspects and perspectives like administrators, students and teachers and Moodle offers all the possible requirements from the students, teachers and the administrators. Following are few good features provided by Moodle.

  • Databases
  • Assignments

  • SCORM
  • Surveys

E-learning is mainly focused on the internet technologies and all the latest internet technologies are used to create the e-learning websites.

Features of E-Learning

There are many important features with the e-learning and most of them focus on the already existing technologies and in this project I would like to evaluate the importance of an effective e-learning and proposes a possible design and implementation procedure for a high school e-learning portal which would look similar to the popular Moodle based online education portal and the detailed design specification and the corresponding implementation procedure is given below

Service-Oriented Architecture and E-Learning

Service oriented architecture (SOA) is the core technology implemented across the Moodle e-learning environment, where it can be used and customized across any operating system and in simple terms, it is a platform independent methodology of constructing an e-learning environment.

Moodle in its full form is known as modular object oriented dynamic learning environment and offers an object-oriented programming and customization features to the end users. A typical web services based software development aspects are embedded with the Moodle implementation and what maximum the users can do is that, they can use these web services and assign the required parameters to build the customized e-learning environment.

In general these web services hold some predefined methods and functions and the end users can simply use these methods as per their website requirements.

Introduction to E-Learning

E-learning is widely used technology these days and the actual concept of E-learning is given in this section. E-learning can be defined as the way of learning different aspects and activities using the computers and the corresponding network connecting these computers. As per the opinion of one of the researcher, e-learning can be defined as the process of gaining the knowledge and delivering the knowledge through online methodologies and also sharing the knowledge to a remote person through online.

E-learning can be considered as the self collaborated way of learning and has tight collaboration with the teacher and the student and they can interact with each other through websites and the typical chatting functionality.

There are much technical advancement towards E-learning and has taken many forms and there are different service providers towards offering the highly integrated e-learning environment and the key among them is Moodle.

Moodle can be considered as the best e-learning environment where it offers many templates and tools to customize the e-learning environment and makes the end users comfortable in creating and implementing the e-learning system.

Limitations of E Learning Portal

There are few limitations with this e-learning implementation and they are discussed in this section and one important limitation with e-learning is that if the learners has no ample grip on the computers, they can’t adjust with the e-learning modules and thus always the computer skills can be considered as the barrier for most of the people who are interested in e-learning.

Another important limitation with the e-learning implementation is that there will be no physical interaction between the teachers and the learners and most of the students can raise their questions and queries online when compared to a direct interaction.

E-Learning Advantages

Learning online has a wide range of popularity across these days and most of the students prefer the online education as their source of learning the things. The actual evaluation of the online education has become from the term known as distance education and the education is not given in a class room across this methodology.

There are many advantages towards online leaning like the level of flexibility; usage range is very easy when compared to other learning techniques and even the online education websites can be easily accessed from a remote location as well.

In general the e-learning is widely accessed by the employees who are currently working across an organization and the main reasons for the employees to choose this e-learning is that, they can learn new technologies and also gain ample knowledge with respect to their job profile.

Apart from the employees even e-learning is popular among the students and also job seekers, where the students can learn new things from online learning by just a simple login to the website and also the job seekers can register to the e-learning websites to gain knowledge on the latest technologies so that they can face the interviews confidently.

Introduction To Distributed Communications Networks

Distributed networks are widely used across the networking world these days and the main popularity of these networks mainly is due to their wide range of support to the distributed applications and nodes across the networks. Parallel computing and distributed computing are the previous modes of the distributed networks and where the distributed networks can handle multiple servers and clients.

A single server can handle multiple clients and each and every client can process the data requests from any of the server. The load on the master server is reduced a lot with the help of distributed networks and there are few limitations with the distributed networks as well and the key among them are the faults occurred across the network.

In general there are different faults that may occur across the distributed networks and the important among them are link failures and the distributed mode of the network is down for some time. At these scenarios the communication among the nodes of the distributed networks are on halt and even the adding the clients and servers to the distributed networks are also stopped and thus the overall performance of the distributed network is affected a lot.

There are many fault tolerant techniques available across the literature and most of them are static in nature and can’t gather the required information with respect to the link failures.

Fault Detection Module for a Distributed Network

As the main aim of this project is to evaluate a mobile agent based fault tolerance system for a distributed network, a fault detection module is introduced in this context.  To detect the faults, few of them are introduced programmatically and then this module is initiated to detect the corresponding faults.  Following faults are introduced in this application and the detailed explanation to them is as given below.

Fail the link

Links between the clients and the servers are failed in this context and this can be achieved by the users by choosing the desired link between the desired server and the clients. A separate button is provided to the users with respect to this and when the user clicks on this link, users are provided a list to choose the desired link to be failed and once the user selects the desired link, then the corresponding link is set to Off and this is reflected in the link status module as well and is update in the link status table as well. A separate Failures table is also maintained and the corresponding details of these failures are maintained at the table. For example for the link failures, the details like the actual nodes between the link and the time when the failure was occurred is maintained in this table.

Distributed network failures

When the users choose this option, distributed network module does not work anymore and clients or server can’t choose the alternative server or client to process the requests. Once this option is selected the distributed network option is set to Off and users has no more option to use this distributed network option and the corresponding details are set to the failure database.

To make the concept simple, only two types of failures are introduced in this project and if the users want to detect the failures, a separate button is provided and if the user clicks on the button all the failure details are displayed to the users and these details are fetched from the failure database.

Failure Recovery in Distributed Systems

Failure recovery programs are driven with respect to the requirements and behavior of the faults across the systems. There are different cases to be considered against the common failures across the distributed systems and there are the possible solutions suggested as well. Following are the few cases identified and the corresponding solutions suggested across the literature.

If the server is down and the client can’t locate the server across the distributed systems, then a simple exception handling can be done and this may not be considered as the feasible solution as most of the programming languages use complex logic across the exception handling mechanism.

If the request of the client is lost to the server across the distributed systems, a simple timeout operation can be used to await the clients till the server responds and if the time is exceeded, the request is reinitiated. This can’t be considered as the optimal implementation as there could be chances of performance degradation due to the timeout operations and also there could be chances of idempotent operations across the distributed systems. In most of the cases, the servers may be crashed once they receive the request from the clients and if this case, the clients keep on waiting for the reply from the server.

The best possible solution for this case is that, rebuilt the server and also rebuilt the client to make the requests of the clients successful. There could be chances where the server reply to the client is lost before reaching the desired client and the server would not be aware of these situations and keep on pinging the client for the required acknowledgment. The usual solution implemented across this failure is that the client sets a maximum time limit and if the time is exceeded, it assumes the server is lost or busy.

Thus there are different failures and corresponding possible solutions identified across the distributed systems and these solutions as discussed not optimal in nature and can work fine for small range of failures and they used to fail in case of major failures across the server of a typical distributed system.

Types of Failures in Distributed Systems

There are different types of failure across the distributed system and few of them are given in this section as below

Crash failures:  Crash failures are caused across the server of a typical distributed system and if these failures are occurred operations of the server are halt for some time. Operating system failures are the best examples for this case and the corresponding fault tolerant systems are developed with respect to these affects.

Timing failures: Timing failures are caused across the server of a distributed system. The usual behavior of these timing failures would be like that the server response time towards the client requests would be more than the expected range. Control flow out of the responses may be caused due to these timing failures and the corresponding clients may give up as they can’t wait for the required response from the server and thus the server operations are failed due to this.

Omission failures: Omission failures are caused across the server due to lack or reply or response from the server across the distributed systems. There are different issues raised due to these omission failures and the key among them are server not listening or a typical buffer overflow errors across the servers of the distributed systems.

Byzantine failures:  Byzantine failures are also know as arbitrary failures and these failures are caused across the server of the distributed systems. These failures cause the server to behave arbitrary in nature and the server responds in an arbitrary passion at arbitrary times across the distributed systems. Output from the server would be inappropriate and there could be chances of the malicious events and duplicate messages from the server side and the clients get arbitrary and unwanted duplicate updates from the server due to these failures.

Above are the important failures identified across the distributed systems.
