Introduction to Seminar Topic on DVD Technology and Applications:
The main objective of this paper is to give idea of DVD technology. As there is huge growth in technology, DVD technology was developed. A digital versatile disc has double density; it is a double sided compact disc. DVD’S are the permanent storage devices which are portable and easy to carry. These are same as compact discs but the capacity of DVD’s is up to 17 Gb. The major difference between CD and DVD technologies are physical characteristics like thickness, data structure characteristics like laser wavelength, and operating characteristics. This uses laser technology for manufacturing optical discs. The laser which is used to read dvd’s has shorter wavelength.
Brief into DVD Technology
In the manufacturing of DVD first step is a glass base is coated with light-sensitive photo resist, in a sodium silicate solution by using a laser to generate digital signal. Nickel layer is place on the photo resist. Electroplating is done on the surface of the nickel layer. A aluminum layer is formed on that and these layers are bonded by melting or by using ultraviolet.
Analog signal is then converted to digital signal , the digital signal which is compressed using DVD compression is stored on the DVD. According to the surveys, usage of dvd’s has been grown rapidly.
Advantages and Applications:
DVD has higher storage capacity. It is portable. DVD-audio is used for interactive playback of audio files and for playing video files. DVD-ram is used for reading and writing which is used in computers as temporary storage device.
