Cryptography Project Report

Introduction to Cryptography Project:

It is the analysis of mathematical methods which is in connection with the information safety such as data integrity, authentication and data origination. The main connection of cryptography is the clear text or the plain text. This process commonly uses an algorithm or the key. An encryption algorithm is such in which a key decides the real scrambling process. Cryptography deals with the two main important concepts called the DES and RAS.

This maintains the security or prevention to the data or the information by keeping the data in safe mode and protected. The main work it does is it prevents the data from interception and new modifications too. This works on Hash functions, RSA algorithm etc…

Cryptography has four minimum classes to accomplish it and they are Authentication, Privacy, Integrity and the non-repudiation. Cryptography is widely used in the defense of any country, as the chats on the radio are to be heard.

In the defense Army people uses the digital cryptography for radio conversation. There are some means of communications which plays a vital role in every one’s life they are radio communication, network communication, Mobile and telephonic communication. This great increment in technology of communications has being opened the doors for the security threats to every user and other organizations too…

Security attacks are those where each computers goes in a useless condition by the harmful attacks done by the unauthorized users. Plain text, hash functions and various other algorithms adds to the sub types of cryptography.

This protects the user by permitting an access to the address of the data and the users and this work is done in very secret manner and also the data is kept unrevealed. That’s why this is called as the main support of cryptography because it manages the choice of keys and rejects the attacks too.

Cryptography also helps the RAF force to trace the message passing between the terrorists and their plan. It has turned to be a great advantage of this device in today’s life…

Comparative Study of Packet Sniffing Tools and Its Importance in Network Monitoring

1)   Your main research (Sub) Questions (each can become a chapter):

but few questions that are identified during the initial process of literature are,

  1. How does a packet sniffer work?
  2. How a packet sniffer helps in network monitoring and network security area?
  3. What are the other uses of packet sniffers?
  4. What are the Criteria used to evaluate a packet sniffer?
  5. Is there any law restricting the use of packet sniffing or packet analysis?
  6. How a packet sniffer detects the attacks such as denial of service (ping flood, SYN flood and network flooding attacks), IP spoofing attacks?

These are the basic questions that need to be understood and should be addressed in this research work. To answer the above, a packet sniffer is a piece of software or hardware capable of monitoring all network traffic.

When compared to ETHERNET the use of wireless LANS is increased these days, unlike Ethernet sniffers there exist wireless sniffers to analyse the network data. This research work compares the several types of wireless packet sniffing tools like Tcpdump, Ettercap, Dsniff, Wireshark, Kismet etc, analysis includes usage of tool that is tested with a case study. Several issues related to the standards related to the wireless technologies also addressed in case studies. Aim and objectives of the project include,

  1. The main aim of the research work is to analyze the WLAN packet sniffing tools that exist in market to monitor the wireless network to observe the malicious activity.
  2. A detailed study related to the wireless standards starting from WEP to WPA-2 to understand the wireless communication process and the flaws in these standards.
  3. To identify various packets sniffing tools and compares them according the quality of service when deployed over a WLAN.
  4. To research on topics to gather the data to prepare a research document that is useful for future reference.
  5. A Critical analysis of the work done and validation of the report, produced as a result of research.

2)   What Research has been done previously in this area:

By making use of digital library and other online journal sources I’ll find the network security related news, articles and journals to gather the information related to the network monitoring tools, as a part of proposal work I referred the books related to the cryptography and network security and some documents about the sniffing tools. To prepare later part of the document i.e, in literature review I’ll refer various journals and information in online resources.

During initial literature review I have identified the key journals and research papers related to the WLAN standards and WLAN sniffing. Some of the identified papers in EBSCO HOST data base are described below.

With the help of Google I found basic information related to WEP, WPA and WPA-2 from the huge internet data source known as Wikipedia.

3)   How you will measure the success of your dissertation?

In order to measure the success of the dissertation, what ever data I gathered related to the previous literature and other working papers and I’ll evaluate critically those data. What ever problems I will encounter during the initial literature process will be discussed briefly with my supervisor. I’ll assess the progress of dissertation by verifying it with the aims & objectives defined in the proposal. Any experience gained by doing the process and the problems encountered during the process will be well documented. The success of this dissertation will wholly depend on the analysis and understanding various attack types in networked environment. These include Denial of service attacks, Spoofing attacks etc.

4)   Methodology- what will be your approach to completing this dissertation?

My approach to complete the dissertation paper is to use waterfall methodology. This methodology is the basic method involving research, analysis, reading and consulting vendors those who deals with development of security tools. Another approach is the referral model. I’ll care the words of professor and seniors in the field of cybercrime. If they refer something to Do, I’ll consider their valuable advice and will do the same to get a good result.

5)   What will be the practical element?

As this is primarily a research based project, the practical element of this dissertation will be 25%, the research methodology utilised to complete the practical will be in the form evaluating the open source packet sniffing tools. Other part of practical element is to analyse various type of attacks and detecting these attacks using the few packet sniffing tools.

6)   What data/examples will you use?

I’ll use the data examples such as windows security and other online websites to check the latest information or news; even I’ll be using the online data by accessing the online resources such as internet, journals, and security tool specification documents.

Hardware requirement

A personal computer or a LAPTOP with minimum configuration

Software requirements

  • Windows XP professional/VISTA
  • Sniffing Tools. (Wireshark, Ehtersnoop etc.)

 7)   What knowledge and skills do you have that will be most relevant here?

As I was doing my masters in Information security and computer forensics I come across few basics in networking and security subjects such as computer security. I got interest in one particular subject area known as Computer security. Since then I was researching on the issues related to computer networks. Most of the tools are practiced in university laboratory during the module SDM-025 Computer security. I practiced some of the tools to identify the protocols and the communication process. One of the tool I am familiar is Wireshark and even a proficient knowledge in using the other packet analysers or sniffing tools. Am quite familiar using windows operating systems, I’ll deploy the tool in my own PC and analyse the networked data in wireless medium.

Seminar on Code Division Multiple Access Technology

Introduction to Code Division Multiple Access Technology:

In today’s generation mobile technology is growing very fast and there are of changes taking place every day. We have lot of choices to select the better transmission system that s more reliable and one of them is CDMA that can access multiple channels. CDMA is a new digital wireless transmission technology form of spread spectrum and it was launched in early nineties.CDMA first converts our voice in the digital form and then send to the user using radio wave. The frequency for the CDMA is not defined and many times lots of users has to use the same frequencywithout interference and the receiving device is design to use the data out of received signal.

History:- The first cell phone were introduced in 1980’s and has  the AMPS(Advanced Mobile Phone System). In last few years mobile phones technology has grown very fast. Many mobiles use CDMA for better division of code. Phone is called cellular because it divides the area into small cells and each cell is assigned a frequency.

CDMA are better than GSM as it produce very less interference then GSM and they emit very low radiation which harmful for human mind.

Basis of CDMA:-for the transmission of data they spectrum technology that occupies a bandwidth in excess of the minimum bandwidth to send information. In CDMA more than one user can access the single channel without creating any problem.

Pros and cons:-it used less power and the transmission rate is very good and it does not allow the network to create the traffic. It also improves voice quality and eliminates external interference. Also provides reliable transport mechanism for data communication.

Technical Paper on Socket Programming in JAVA

For using internet facilities we must have connection between application program and protocol software. UNIIX is a process oriented operating system in which each program executes at a user level. In it the application programs will going to interact with operating system by making system calls. It takes arguments and return results. In it, it gives system calls to open and read data or transfer data. Both read and write takes three argument that specify the discription to use, the address of the buffer and the number of bytes to transfer. It has an early implementation of TCP/IP protocols. We can send data through socket and again receive it. We can specify the local address to the socket.

Sockets: – The end point of communication is called as socket. IP address and port number both together makes a socket. They are also called as client server architecture. To make a connection to the internet socket send a request to the sever.

Socket Abstraction: – In UNIX the program request the operating system to create socket when needed. By using the socket the application sends the address to the destination.

Creating a socket: – The sockets are created by the system call on demand for this it take three integer arguments and returns the result in integer. And the arguments specify the type of communication.

Socket inheritance and termination:-UNIX uses two ways to start the application. First is fork, it creates the copy of running application and second is exec, in this the new copy replaces itself. When a program all, then the new copy inherits access to open all socket.

Conclusion:-The exact interface between application and software depends on the details of the operating system. For using TCP/IP we must create socket and bind address to it than accept incoming connection and communicate using read and write primitives.

Java Project Report on Government Document Work Flow Management

Introduction to Government Document Work Flow Management Java Project:

It is the application developed using java scripts which also include HTML and JSP. It used the features of servlets and struts. It used My SQL for storing data or for data base management, to maintain the record of the government. It can be developed using eclipse and dream weaver. We can also add the bar code for the scanning purpose or security purpose.

There is always the problem of the government record or files where they are kept, it is very difficult task to maintain the file in the government record where they are kept. Customers always have to face the problem in government offices by spending hours but they get nothing. So to overcome this problem, an application is generated that can be used to maintain the record of the government offices. To make this better we use bar code that has the information of the particular department and the reason for the record.

Every customer will be given specific login id and password so that they can login from internet anywhere and anytime. This will reduce the headache of both customer and government. But this application they can be updated with the information.

This application includes the management process, proper documentation and information of the employee, bar code generation and scanner for any search. Documents are scanned by bar code before adding or retrieval and after that reporting of the statics data.

This application allows the user to setup their document and do the routing process if exceptions are generated. For every generation we have to generate the bar code for submitting the document and employee can also set their record in the data base for specifying in the department.

Research on Indian Network Infrastructure Project Proposal

Course: MSc Data Networks and Security

AIM: To investigate the present technology and infrastructure of various computer network firms and analyse how the infrastructure is coping up with the present trends with regards to sustainability and improvement of the IT Sector in India.

PROJECT PHILOSOPHY:

MOTIVATION BEHIND CHOOSING THE TOPIC: CRUX BEHIND THE PROJECT

Networking significance is one of the major criteria’s for this study. It is the primary concern of a researcher to understand the present technology and retain an insight of its future scope. It is always beneficiary to have an up to date knowledge about the technologies to stay ahead of the targets and sustain in the competitive industry. A good foundation results in a strong establishment of the technology involved. Many articles and surveys revealed that Indian firms will top the IT sector in the world in next two decades. This project will act as an eye opener dealing with the future infrastructures adopted by companies in India to compete and excel and retain themselves as strong competitors with the other companies of the world.

OBJECTIVES:

To study and compare the current computer network infrastructure in well established and developing software industries.

To conduct a research on various security technologies adopted in the Indian companies.

To analyse the reliability of infrastructures adopted in both types of firms.

To underline the problems and drawbacks faced in general and try to provide adoptable and relevant solutions.

To highlight factors that control cost effectiveness and reliability.

METHODOLOGY:

The Methodology adopted will be qualitative including interviews with Indian IT companies as the main resource of findings backed up with the Literature review.

The prime aim is to develop a blue print on how to conduct the research on the present infrastructure of the companies and then try to analyse the glimpse of the future perspective.

Preparing a questionnaire and getting feedbacks from people of related sectors.

Divide the tasks in stages to help achieve better results.

Primarily, the interviews will help to find relevant points regarding technology improvement and detail out strategies of the companies to become and remain successful. This will help in comparing the systems of both developed and established companies with the developing companies.

Secondarily, read the research articles on the IT companies and develop a blue print on the infrastructure they house. Prepare a list of companies on which the research would be done

This will be entirely based on books, journals and articles in the internet which will                     provide information related to previous studies relevant to this topic and thereby can help in finding practical solutions for the improvement of the use of technology in an efficient manner.Collecting and implementing the acquired information in the required areas and to analyse the results keeping the business point of view in mind.

The research also includes the information regarding the newly established IT firms in or nearer rural areas. In this scenario, relevant information regarding the foundations and frame works of the companies are noted and analysed whether they match to the level of established MNC’s and if not what are the factors that are influencing for these firms to stay behind the competition.

Glimpse of the future

The IT companies have started recognising the importance of infrastructure and developing  in order to meet the upcoming technologies. Major firms like WIPRO, INFOSYS, IBM, COGNIZANT etc  give more preference to the infrastructures. This trend is likely to be followed by all the companies and thus India is destined to be the future IT capital of the world.

Implement and Design a Sigma – Delta based ADC for GSM Receiver

MSc Mobile Communications

Research Dissertation Proposal Form

Discuss briefly the scope of the research:

In recent years , the bandwidth for wireless  communication standards keeps on increasing from 1st  generation 1G which is first introduced in 1980’s and had only 200khz signal  bandwidth  to wireless local  area network(WLAN)  and worldwide interoperability microwave access  ( WIMAX)  in recent years , which has 20 MHz  signal bandwidth . Increasing the signal bandwidth allows for faster data transmitting and receiving rate. Meanwhile, it also increases the difficulty of designing the Analogue to Digital converters inside a transceiver.

As in this research we Implement and design a sigma – delta based analogue to digital converter for GSM receiver. Sigma – Delta ADC architecture has been preferred for wireless receivers in handheld devices

Comment on how you might evaluate your own the research goals:

We compare the performances of first order      ∑  ∆  modulator, second order ∑  ∆  and third order ∑  ∆  modulators  . When multiple first-order ∑  ∆ loops are cascaded to obtain higher order modulators, the signal that is passed to the successive loop is the error term from the current loop. There will be some error difference between the integrator output and the quantization output. Essentially, the noise shaping function in a ∑  ∆  modulator is the inverse of the transfer function of the filter in the forward path of the modulator.

Concise outline of the Research Methodology you plan to use:

1)    Design a sigma – delta analogue to digital converter

2)  Design a GSM receiver

3)  Simulation and results in two ways

  • plot for single sine wave
  • plot for GSM  signal

Discuss briefly any equipment you might require, or any data sets with which to commence expedition of the research project:

I will design the circuits in matlab and execute them in matlab itself, so there is no need of any other equipment

What knowledge and skills do you have that will be most relevant here?

We need good skills of Matlab and we should have a thorough knowledge on digital signal processing and communication systems

Schedule for plan of research and estimated hours:

  • Understanding on  working principle of Nyquist rate ,oversampling and ∑  ∆ ADC’s
  • Study of ∑  ∆ ADC in terms of  Bandwidth , Dynamic range oversampling ratio
  • ∑  ∆ ADC modulators and it advantages
  • Study and design a GSM receiver and quantify its Dynamic range requires  for the ∑  ∆ ADC
  • Developing a design of the proposed ∑  ∆ ADC
  • Simulation and Results
