Seminar Report on Night Vision Device Technology

Introduction to Night Vision Device Technology Seminar Topic:

Night Vision Device is nice topic of great interest of youngsters of modern time of enthusiastic about the improvement in science.

So before knowing the advantage of using Night vision device, we should know the prime reason for creating such a device .Actually this was originally developed for military. Since it was difficult to know what the enemies are up to once the night occurs. It is well known fact that humans cannot see in dark where there is no light .With this form of device we can see a person who is 180-200 m away from us.

We have two types of night vision

1. Biological Vision      2.Technical Vision

With every generation i.e first generation ,second  generation and so on ,the way the device purpose was same but the way of working and situation might vary .We might have observed this technology while playing action games. Our main character wore the night vision device and the screen observed by us would be green. So now you might think it be just about creating a story more interesting they might have done so ,but the truth is there is a science behind it .So why do Night Vision Device have images shown in green .The reason is simple Night Vision Device ( NVD ) use green because it is more defined image.

One more scientific fact is that apart from other color such red, blue so on human have the ability to differentiate different shades of green. The second generation of this device made better use of thermal imagining.

So what exactly is Thermal Imagining .This is a technique that allowed the NVD to work even in foggy, smoky, dusty condition.

Eg .This form of situation generally prevails in desert.

Seminar Report on Speed Detection of Moving Vehicle Using Speed Cameras

Introduction to peed Detection of Moving Vehicle Using Speed Cameras Seminar Topic:

Lets try to examine the title of our topic taken; here we find five main keywords

1 .speed

2 .detection

3.vehicle

4.camera

5.moving speed

So why exactly is need to develop such a system is the next question that comes in our mind,it is because , since we see in our daily life as population increases we see that the number of vehicle has also increases .Due to increase the number of vehicle there has been a number of traffic problem that arises ,thus this was the reason to create a speed detection of vehicle. So how exactly is the speed being detected is the next question that comes in our mind? One of the best techniques is used sensor, as with sensor we would be able to detect the system.

Now let focus on the method used to make such a system:

An image taken of traffic cannot be best possible solution Keeping the importance of time factor in time as it is crucial point of traffic when managing; we will decide this factor for our speed detection .Speed detection is done on the time lag between two images. Thus it means at interval of particular time multiple images are taken out as then using special algorithm the movement of machine is compared.

What if we are unable to achieve the speed detection, just think of the number of accident that is going to happen .We may not know what the possible cause of that accident was? A simple eg of such an aerial view is seen in Google Map. This type of system is generally need to be implemented for traffic management in metro areas

Seminar Topic and Seminar Report on An ATM with an eye

Introduction to An ATM with eye Seminar Topic:

There was a time when we do not pay importance to time, later we felt importance of time, later we felt unsatisfactory result even with span of time. This statement stands true for the topic we are learning. ATM it stands for Automated Teller Machine.

Thus to fulfill the above goal i.e customer satisfaction, time saving of customers ATM was created. ATM is generally used for money transaction. Now since we already know what is money and how transaction of money is we are going to skip this .Lets look on how the ATM works. The most important security of ATM is pin that is used.  ATM is a machine, in order to access the machine and get some money some form of magnetic card is used .This would decrease fraudent activity.

Since this is a system that is going to be used by a lot of people there is need to maintain some form of privacy. Why exactly a privacy is needed is the next big question that comes in the mind ?Its because we are sharing the Automated Teller Machine to perform same task i.e taking money using different account number .To properly use the ATM we need to give the account number to the system ,which is followed by Pin.

We generally see a bank as one of the main reason that is responsible for the growth of ATM. Now one of the one question that may come in our mind is why only pin for authentication, why not something else say images for detection. Since images stored in database may not perfectly match one face even if its face of correct person who gave the image, the pin used for authentication seems to be the smart choice. Again speaking on one of the concern related to customers is privacy of images in bank database since it may be misused in some way or another thus smart choice is to use pin in ATM.

Survey on Sensitive Data Storage and Deletion Methods Seminar Topic

Introduction to Survey on Sensitive Data Storage and Deletion Methods Seminar Topic:

This paper discussed about the survey which summarizes the methods of providing confidential storage of information in personal computing environments. Sensitive data is lost due to theft or improper disposal of storage media and there are many methods exist to protect the sensitive data from unauthorized storage or deletion.

Overview:

Sensitive information is storing on electronic storage devices as the usage of paper is reduced gradually.  There are many incidences happened where the sensitive information has misused or deleted by an unauthorized users. The two components helps to safeguard the data privacy on electronic storage media are the data must be stored in a confidential manner without causing problem during normal use and at the time of disposal, confidential data must be removed from storage media in an irrecoverable manner.  This survey explains various confidential data storage and deletion techniques with the aim of find the best solution which provides protection to the sensitive data.

This survey focused on single-user and non-distributed computing environments. Always, the threat model assumes that attacks to recover confidential data when the computer is powered off.  But attacks occurred after the users logged in are out of scope of this survey.  Confidential storage methods are difficult to implement as these methods are very complex to implement on sensitive data.  Software-based solutions to confidential storage of data do not require any specialized hardware and these solutions are widely available in market today.  Bit locker encrypts a specific volume sector-by-sector with the help of a diffuser.

Conclusions:

This survey summarizes the benefits and limitation of confidential storage and deletion methods. Comparison of confidential data handling methods also takes place in this suvey, while comparing it considers the characteristics like confidentiality, limitations, performance and ease-of-use.  Also discussed the overall trends of various approaches and issues faced in the data lifetime problem.

Latest ECE Seminar Topic on A VHDL Primer

Introduction:

This project is to introduce a VHDL language, a hardware description language.  This language is used to model a digital system. VHDL-Very Hard Description Language is a verbose language with many constructs and also very difficult to understand. But the subset of VHDL is simple easy to understand. By using simple set of few features in this language, a reader can start writing models in VHDL. VHDL language has many features especially sequential language part form the ADA programming language.

Overview:

This language can be used as communication medium between chip vendors and CAD tool users and also between CAD and CAE tools. To describe an entity, VHDL provides 5 design units like entity declaration, architectural body, configuration declaration, package declaration and package body. An entity in VHDL is validated using an analyzer and simulator.

Simulation is a validation process which takes places once the model description is compiled into one or more design libraries.  A simulation can be performed on a configuration or on anentity declaration and an architecture body pair.  Elaboration and Initialization phases are two major steps which need to be carried out before preceding with the actual simulation. Identifiers, data objects, data types, operators are the basic elements of this language.

Like C or Pascal, an entity behavior is expressed using sequential executed and procedural type code. A dataflow model gives the entity functionality without dealing with its structure. In structural modeling an entity is modeled in a way such that a set of components connected by signals.

In VHDL , compiled design units stored in specific design libraries and package is the term which represents how to store and share declarations that are common for many design units. VHDL describes its own bench models to validate the designed simulation hardware models.  Arbitrarily large designs can model using this language and also not imposing any limitation on the size of a design.  The elements of this language help to make large scale design modeling.

Latest CSE Seminar Topic on Tool for Fast Regular Expression Matching

This paper discussed about the DOTSTAR tool which emerged for fast regular expression matching. DOTSTAR compiles regular expressions into a compact automation by using more manageable intermediate representations in a sequence. The resulting automation can easily search with a single pass without any backtracking.

Overview:

To define configurable rules for data parsing, regular expressions are a common choice.  Regular expressions help in performing online data filtering for many data intensive applications.  But with the regular expressions there is a possibility of increasing data rates and complexities by sets with hundreds of expressions.

DOTSTAR addresses this problem by providing a software tool chain to compile large sets of user provided regular expressions first into a sequence of intermediate representations. Dotstar addresses the problems like amnesia and acalculia.  Amnesia is the inability of follow the multiple partial matches’ progress, whereas Acalculia is the inability to count the number of sub-expression occurrences.  Dotstar helps to avoid state explosion by using counting and status bits. Dotstar can reduce the memory requirements by elimination amnesia.

The five elements of Dotstar are classification engine, expander, compiler, compactor and runtime engine. Dotstar can accommodate the complex regex of Posix standard.  For the NIDS regex sets, Dotstar also compares well with the FPGA/accelerator implementations.

Conclusions:

DOTSTAR tool offers an automation to recognize small and large regular expression sets. Similar to Aho-Corasick automation, dotstar also can detect an exact matching of every regular expression including overlapping matches in a single pass.  Dotstar can efficiently parses both large and small user provided regular expressions with a very high matching speed for regex sets also Dotstar offers solution to acceleration.  The results given by Dotstar tool are better when compared to that of Regexlib and Boost tools. XML tokenization, SMTP parsing and Network intrusion detection are the three categories in which experimental evaluation has been carried out for Dotstar tool.

Solution to Privacy Issues in RFID Item-level Applications

Introduction to Solution to Privacy Issues in RFID Item-level Applications Project:

This paper discussed about a solution that addresses the privacy issues of Radio Frequency Identification item-level applications and also demonstrates a solution which provides high security with low manufacturing and management cost.

Overview:

Automated identification is possible in RFID without the knowledge of tag bearer and it is one of the major privacy concerns of RFID.  In RFID item-level applications this unauthorized read can be prevented with the help of traditional cryptographic operations like authentication and encryption but these operations are too costly in RFID. Automated identification also raises privacy concerns like inventorying and clandestine tracking.

Many researches has been carried out to provide consumer privacy in the RFID world. Physical approaches such as peeling off tags antennas or physical triggers do not provide protection from clandestine inventorying. The trade-off between cryptographic operations and low-cost has become a major challenge in designing RFID tags.  With the new proposed RFID structure, the tags need not store more information. Tags need to carry only the ID numbers to avoid clandestine and eavesdropping tracking.  Information security, integrity and non-repudiation are protected by the database in the new RFID structure.

Conclusions

This paper proposed a solution to the privacy concerns in RFID in item-level applications at low manufacturing and maintenance cost. In this system, RFID tags do not need a PIN or a secret key authentication which in turn reduces the costly key distribution and management.  Tags carry only ID numbers and uses hash function to prevent clandestine tracking.  This eliminates eavesdropping attacks because no reader will get meaningful information from tag responses.  Information related to tags is so secured and stored in a back-end database.

This information will send to end-users along the supply chains through cryptographic operations. Burden of using cryptographic operations shifts from tags to database so tags are easy to manufacture and maintain.  Tags carry only ID numbers, which are divided into segments, which will helps to reduce computational complexity of database management.

Smart Gateway Design for WSN Health Care System Project Report

Introduction to Smart Gateway Design for WSN Health Care System Project:

This paper discussed about a smart gateway design which designed especially for WSN health care systems at home environments by building a bridge between different networks to get faster response time during emergencies. The communication protocols are also designed between WSN, gateway and remote servers.  Researches has been carried out on this smart gateway with a wireless home e-health care sensor network in order to show that this gateway is reliable and has low power consumption and latency.

Overview:

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) have been used in many areas because of its numerous advantages. WSNs are also using in health care systems by integrating health care, sensor network and wireless communications together.  Smart gateway designed by following embedded system development processes and this resultant designed gateway is used in WSN health care systems.

In a health care system, time required detecting patient’s health state and informing the same to care givers is very important.  In WSN, sensor nodes always must be in working mode and less interfere channel. Data from WSN is analyzed by the proposed gateway or by any central server.  With the help of WSN, the data about health state of patient’s must reach health care takers on time.  Health care takers must get notice when patient’s health is in danger.

Smart gateway is classified into simple and intelligent models. In simple model, connection exists between WSN and smart gateway, and between smart gateway and health care takers. Communication protocol exists between WSN and PCN in transport layers and it should exist between WSN and HCC in application layer.

Data transfers to HCC from WSN and commands received from HCC which need to be implemented. In intelligent model, connection exists between WSN and smart gateway, and between smart gateway and remote server.  Onboard database plays an important role in receiving and storing data from WSN and informing the same to HCC.  Reporting of patient’s health state to remote server takes place periodically.

Shape Based Voting Algorithm for Pedestrian Detection and Tracking

Introduction:

This paper discussed about how shape-based object detection and tracking takes place using the MOUGH Transform. The shape-based voting algorithm proposed in this paper is mainly addressed one of the challenging problem, pedestrian tracking.

Shape-based detection and tracking:

MOUGH (Mixture of Union and Gaussians Hough) Transform is a new shape model designed and it designed based on a Gaussian Mixture model (GMM).  As this method is shape-based, it is used to detect stationary objects and does not depend on movement. Shape-based algorithms use the object typical shape to perform tracking.  Register complex 3d models and constraint optic flow methods are the part of shape based methods.  This paper focused on edge-based methods for edge-based shape tracking. Active shape models are used in pedestrian tracking.  But ASM has its own limitations which overcome by level set methods.

Generalized Hough Transform suggested an alternative approach to shape-based detection. GHT detects arbitrary shapes by using a single template image with a marked centroid. Since GHT has lot of drawbacks. Leibe’s implicit shape model uses a voting approach and has been applied to pedestrian tracking.  MOUGH voting can be made up to sixteen times faster by an outlier distribution in training and using centroid adjustments.

Conclusion:

MOUGH is a new shape-based model for shape-based detection and tracking. Voting from edges takes place in MOUGH using mixture of Gaussians. An analysis of noise characteristics given images of rigid objects gives this algorithm.  Semi-parametric shape template from sample images has been learnt by this algorithm.

This algorithm uses silhouette shape, so it is very effective in detecting pedestrians. This algorithm shows high performance when compared to that of other Hough variants and also provides more advantages than other shape based tracking algorithms like active shape models. The shape-based model using this algorithm helps to locate and track objects accurately against complex backgrounds.  This algorithm is more efficient in tracking pedestrians from a side view.

Seminar Report on A Phase Change Memory as a Secure Main Memory

Introduction to  A Phase Change Memory as a Secure Main Memory Seminar Topic:

This paper discussed about Phase Change Memory technology and describes how to design a PCM-based main memory to overwrite attacks.  The benefits of PCM over existing DRAM technology is that its static energy consumption, and integration scalability for future technologies generations.

Overview:

Limited endurance is one of the issues for the design of PCM-based main memory systems. PCM components create a main memory through a very simple program of overwriting the same memory cells again and again. In a secure PCM-based main memory, PA-to-PCMA translation is continuously altered through a random process.

Applications:

The following are few of the applications of PCM:

  1. In embedded systems: In embedded systems, memory is used for code storage.  Phase change memory enables new memory usage models which are used as storage memory for an embedded file system.
  2. In wireless systems: PCM serves as an outstanding code execution memory and outstanding read-mostly memory. PCM  achieves the best overall cost while meeting the increasing performance demands of high-end, multimedia wireless devices
  3. In solid state devices: PCM can be used in solid state storage systems to store often accessed pages. And also to store those elements which are more easily managed when manipulated in place.
  4. As non-volatile memory: To reduce power consumption, PCM banks are turned off when they are in idle state. PCM subsystem density envelope is not limited by the system power envelope constraints.

Conclusions:

The PCM based main memory is more effective because of its very low static energy consumption. To consider PCM memory as an industrial product it should resists to software overwrite attacks.  Overwrite attacks can be prevented by hiding the PCM memory address and then moving the physical memory block in PCM memory.  PA-to-PCMA scheme allows the overall PCM main memory to resist to an overwrite attack for a very high fraction of its expected lifetime. A scheme proposed in this paper reduces performance on memory intensive applications.
