Improving performance of Ad Hoc TCP in MANETS Seminar Topic

Performance of TCP over MANETS:

The transmission protocol that is used extensively across the internet and file transfer data services is the Transmission Control Protocol TCP. Now-a-days the usage of TCP is also spread across the MANETs also. Generally across a MANET, there may be several TCP connections and so it is very difficult to estimate the performance of TCP in multiple connections which is also considered as a complex task. Generally, some of the attributes like mobility, traffic load and scalability are considered while estimating the performance of MANETs.

A wide research is made in the direction of MANET’s performance through the “Transmission Control Protocol” TCP, “User Datagram Protocol” UDP and “Constant bit rate” CBR along “File Transfer Protocol” FTP. As discussed earlier, across the MANETs scalability of the routing protocols is based virtuously on the attributes. In case of failures in the routes MANETs are not supported by the present form of TCP particularly in terms of the techniques of congestion control. The performance of TCP across the Mobile Adhoc Networks can be discussed by several techniques that already exist, but yet a lot of hard work is needed for this research to estimate the performance of TCP across the MANETs as it is difficult to do it with the currently available techniques.

TCP-F or TCP-Feedback is the feedback mechanism that can be used in route failures for improving the performance of TCP, in this case the route failures or link failures are identified by the intermediate nodes and then a notification message is passed to the original source of TCP and this notification message is called as the “Route Failure Notification” RFN. When this RFN is received by the source of TCP then it automatically ends the process of communication by stopping the sending of packets that are required. And then if in case a route to the destination node is identified by the intermediate node then it will send a “Route Re-establishment Notification” RRN for the source of TCP and once this RRN is received by the source then it will restart the process of data transmission by reactivating the state. Therefore, it makes clear that the original throughput of TCP is purely based on the average time taken to repair the route failure or link failure along the mobile Adhoc Networks.

Later another notification technique called as “Explicit Link Failure Notification (ELFN) is introduced for improving the TCP performance across the MANETs as indicated earlier. When the TCP source is intimated about the link failure or route failure by the intermediate node, then the TCP source will stop the timer and state across the window of transmission. The re-establishment of route is not done in this particular context, instead of re-establishing the route the TCP source will verify for the possible route in the MANETs and forwards packets continuously.

When compared to the RFN notification technique ELFN is considered as the best notification technique across both OPNET and NS2 simulations and this is also regarded as the best option for increasing the TCP performance across the Mobile Adhoc Networks. Generally TCP is regarded as an effective resource for the transmission of data and for the delivery of end-to-end information in case of the wired networks but in case of the wireless networks, TCP fails abruptly. Mostly in case of MANETs TCP fails and the reason for this is in certain conditions like delay and packet loss TCP cannot work where certain conditions such as packet losses and delay of packet delivery are generally encouraged by the MANETs.

Route discovery in AODV

Route discovery in AODV:

As discussed already if in a network if a node wants communication with any other node with in that network, some attributes and parameters are configured by that node. The process of this communication is done in step by step procedure and as the first step the source node verifies the routing table of its own for identifying the entry that possess the IP address of the destination and if the same address is identified then ends the communication procedure by just using the information of routing that is obtained from the table.

If such an entry is not identified by the source node in its routing table then the following order of steps is followed by the source node to continue the communication procedure.

  • The source node uses some attributes such as the number of hops to the destination node, IP address of destination node, broadcast ID that is unique, IP address of the source node and sequence numbers of destination and source nodes for creating the RREQ message.
  • The RREQ message is broadcasted by the source node and then waits some time by using a timer to count the time to wait.
  • The RREQ message is received by all the nodes in the route and then they will verify the ID of the message and then checks for the matching message ID if that is matched then the message is processed and if not the message is discarded simply.
  • If the message is identified as unprocessed by any of the receiver then the IP address of destination node is verified with the information of routing that is obtained from their own routing tables. If the destination node is that particular receiver then the message is processed and if the receiver is not the destination is passes the message to the destination in the route that is available for that node as it was directed by the information of routing obtained from the routing table.
  • When the RREQ message is forwarded by any of the receiver, a unicast message RREP is sent by that receiver as a reply to the source node. The IP addresses of the nodes those which processes the message is are maintained by the source node to use it in future.

A Literature Review of Security Attack in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

Literature Review

In today’s networking world Mobile Adhoc Networks are used in a wide range and the across these MANETs routing is controlled using several routing protocols. The multicast and unicast routing throughout the MANETs is supported by a particularly designed routing protocol called “Adhocon Demand Distance Vector” routing protocol which is simple called as AODV routing protocol. On demand principle is used as the common nature of this AODV algorithm, here based on the dynamic decision of the source node the specific routes and their actual routing are built.

Using this routing protocol the instructions are passed by source to modify or add the routes that are predefined and this passing depends on the parameters of networking such as congestion and bandwidth. This routing protocol maintains the tree based structure which is typical; the composition of this tree is done using the nodesand group members and these nodes are used to connect the members of the multicast routing. Even though this protocol possesses some common characteristics of proactive protocols, this is considered as the reactive protocol.

The “Dynamic Source Routing Protocol” DSR is basis for implementing the AODV routing protocol technically, where the route discovery process from the DSDV (Destination Sequence Distance Vector) and DSR (Dynamic Source Routing) protocols is inherited by the AODV routing protocol, and in addition to these the concept of maintaining the transmitted order of hello messages is also inherited by this routing protocol.

The most available and essential feature of AODV routing protocol is states of each and every node that is based on time, where a node expires automatically when it remains unused. If in case some failures are observed in the routes or if there are any differences in the routes then the neighboring nodes are updated using AODV routing protocol. In order to reach the destination node AODV selects the most recent route.

Routing With Security in Mobile ADHOC Networks Project Report

Introduction to Routing With Security in Mobile ADHOC Networks Project:

This project is planned employing Java Swing alongside Java Application Programming Interfaces involving Microsoft SQL Server as database. Mobile adhoc networks dismiss the reliance on a stable network framework by dealing each accessible node as an in between switch, by stretching the degree of nodes farther than their base transmitters. Manets also help in calamity management. Route Discovery or creation and Route maintenance are the two major techniques included. The ideas of Dynamic Source Routing algorithm are included here.

Each node manages a file for recognizing its neighbor node and finds out the route among the source and the destination, in Route Discovery. On finding out the path once, the information is arranged alongside the source and the destination. In Route Maintenance, the route among the source and the destination is managed as long as the information is being sent. Every node associates its address with the source during conveying between the source and the destination. While the data is being sent, the safety is used by executing the route randomizing, which also discovers a new route that has not been employed for any earlier information transfer.

Mobile adhoc network is a comparatively new conception in the sphere of wireless technology. Wireless investigation mainly stresses on the functional prospects of manets which have been executed as a project for the refined transfer of packets from a node to another. This system is consistent to alterations that may take place in future.
