Remote Method Invocation in Java

The Remote method invocation (RMI) design has to be developed in distributed Java programs consists of similar syntax and semantics that are applicable in non- distributed programs. One has to observe or learn the Java classes and objects in single Java virtual machine (JVM) and then go for the Java classes and objects to run on distributed Java virtual machine (Multiple MVM).

RMI architecture is about the functions of objects, to keep memory, the limits, and remote operating procedures.

To design RMI system, the steps required:

  1. To develop interface Java code to write and compile.
  2. To implement classes Java code to write and compile.
  3. To create Stub and Skeleton class files from implemented classes
  4.  RMI Client program to be developed by Java code
  5. The RMI system to be install and run

Java RMI Architecture

The RMI Architecture designing is combined feature of Java programming language and the local object model developed with   Java distributed object model. The RMI architects developed successfully a safe and rich of Java architecture for the distributed computing.

The theory of RMI architecture is relied on two major concepts, the definition of behavior and the implementation of the particular behavior. It requires code to define behavior separately the implement of behavior that can run separate JVM’s.

The distributed system segregates the system by clients to know the definition and servers should be aimed in giving service.

Mainly the RMI’s remote service is developed by applying the Java interface. How to apply the remote service has needed to code in a class. The RMI knowledge requires to memorize the interface define behavior and classes define implementation.

So RMI system includes the Client Program for Interface and Server Program to implement. The RMI support for running two classes on the same interface which is included first class to apply the behavior and that runs on server and second class is remote service consists of proxy runs on client. The client program is used to put method calls on proxy objects, for which RMI instructs the remote JVM for implementation. The return values of implementation by remote JVM goes to client’s program via proxy service. The RMI uses network stack and TCP/IP for communications between JVM’s.

Social Network System In E-learning for University Students

Aim

The Aim of this project is to develop a Social Network System application in E-Learning for University students, which help students to contribute among themselves for their progress in the learning.

Deliverable

This project would carryout research on the following areas:

  • Project will deliver the Social Network Site for university students for e-learning, which help students to share their subject knowledge to help students who find difficult in their subject or module.
  • In Social Network Site one can add friends from the registered university students who also had registration in Social Network Site.
  • Registered users of Social Network Site can join in the existing communities or can form new community based on their desired subject or any topic related in which the students are interested.
  • Students can share their knowledge on the module, subject, lectures, articles, proceedings, etc., which all help in the progress of the students.
  • Students all should understand university plagiarism, which will not affect their study due to sharing of their knowledge with other students via Social Network Site.
  • This project aim is to bring students to a platform for sharing their subject knowledge with each other for the purpose of the effective e-leaning.

Research question(s)

  • How the Social Network System help in effective E-Learning among University Students?
  • Role of the qualitative and quantitative method approach for building powerful Social Network System?

Literature Review

Social network sites are meant to connect with their friends, beloved ones, etc. Social Network sites are mostly using by the teens to meet, share, and connect with each other. Social network system combining with the e-learning will bring the good result in the education system.

Razavi et al. (2006) states that social network software which allows effective connection of people to each other as well as resources and facilitates the creation of communities. Creating communities in the Social Network System also help in the education system. Razavi et al. (2006) states that knowledge management tool which encourage the connection of expertise, resource and people.

Students in the social network system in e-learning involves the sharing their knowledge accordance to module or subject related topic. Any students can post their subject related queries on social network system or in their individual community or to their friends who they have been added to each other in social network system. In the same way the students who can answer the query.

Privacy in the Social Network System is also important, which allow the individual data to be protected from seeing by the users who are not friend/colleague in the Social Network System with the user. The questions which arise in context to privacy are as follows:

  • What Kind of information shared, and why? Razavi et al. (2006).
  • Are current privacy management mechanisms sufficient, and (if not) what are the problems? Razavi et al. (2006).
  • Are there ever been a change of preference regarding sharing a certain object, and what factors affect this decision? Razavi et al. (2006).

Above questions all depends on one individual who can only restrict that what to be shared and not to be shared in the community.

User can include the variety of information in the profile and are as follows:

  • User Fundamental Information such as Name, Course, Semester, and Gender.
  • User Contact Data such as Email ID, Home Address, and Phone Number.
  • User Personal Data such as Hobbies, Music, Favourite Movies, Favourite Singer, Favourite Sports etc.
  • User Module and Assignment Details.
  • User Pictures, Favourite Music, and Favourite Videos.
  • User personal messages with their friends can be read by other friends who have been linked or not by permission from the user.
  • Minifeed/Newsfeed which help user to know the activity of the friends as well as any one visiting his profile.
  • Friend request sent by any individual other than known person then the recipient can go through requested profile and recipient can accept or decline if he/she feel that his profile is suit to his friend’s category or not.

Profile can be viewed by the other users on the social network system depends on the profile setting such as:

  • Public Profiles: Profile, which can be viewed by all on the Social Network System.
  • Private Profiles: Profile, which can not be viewed by all on the Social Network System except user added friends.
  • Search Profile: User can restrict that his/her profile in Social Network System whether or whether not to be searchable.

By using social network site, one can assign themselves to community/group of students according to their interest of subject/modules. If the students involves in presentation by communal activity then it is said to belonging to a community of engagement practice. In imagination students community, students must imagine with what communities that their work is related, which help in their subject related as well as their interest of subject. In alignment student’s community, students should recognize themselves with the community whose work is related to their subject of interest.

Privacy is also one of the important aspect to consider in social network system, as many users post their personal information such as their martial status, favourite things such as color, food, dislikes, likes, etc., and as this is one of the SNS with e-learning based one will post their module details and their achievement as well as their thesis details, which will help other individual to get knowledge, if they have same module/subject in their course, which act as guidance. One should always post abstract/introduction/summary of their module/thesis, which helps other individual as guidance to their subject/module and their will be no scope for theft of data from other individual profile.

Every individual should have option to each and every content in the profile to keep it as private or public, which makes them to save their individual profile securely.

According to Govani et al., (2007) (in Strater et al., 2008) additionally, there is little awareness of privacy policies and use of existing privacy mechanisms among active users.

Every individual should be made awareness among the privacy policies in the SNS, which help every individual to protect their individual private/personal data. Every individual should also notified in privacy policy that inappropriate images or data posted will be removed, if any one on the SNS is reported as abuse, which help in protecting other individual privacy in SNS.

By using SNS and applying E-Learning, which give a new concept that learning subject/wisdom from many individual who on the SNS and whose thinking or subject matches with other individual as learning seems to be incremental method in their individual as days passes in their academics.

According to Teo et al., (2006) e-learning can transmit knowledge fast and effectively, many people accept it as means of upgrading themselves and keeping up with the rapid changes that define the internet.

There are many Social Network Systems available, but all are for the purpose of having contacts with their pals, but Social Network System in E-Learning is effective tool, which can bring great change in the student life, which will give answer to his/her queries from the seniors of his course who are thought to best to guide juniors.

Research Method

In the all proceedings and articles used in this project proposal document have employed Qualitative and Quantitative method.

Quantitative methodology help in getting the interviews as well as answers of the questionnaires from the students about the Social Network System in E-Learning and Qualitative methodology help in getting the important information from the interviews taken from the students and information from the questionnaires.

Thus it will be beneficial, if I use the Qualitative and Quantitative methodology approach in my project.

Evaluation

Effective use of Social Networking System in e-learning is one of the most important features in the current learning system found in many universities, schools, college, etc.

By use of Social Networking System in E-Learning, there will be improvement seen in the student then the general pattern of learning. Social Networking System in E-Learning will make the students explore the material used by the different students among friends to have look and gain knowledge for their own assignments, thesis, etc.

Social Networking System in E-Learning should also be used in context to the subject and requirement. One can communities in the Social Network System according to their subject aspect, so that other students who are interested in that community can join and can share their knowledge, and if any students have any queries can post their queries in the community, so that any students have any suggestions or solutions for the posted queries can send reply to the students who need reply to their posted queries.

The content shared among students is also one of the important aspects in Social Networking System in E-Learning. Students can share their assignment topics, assignment details, thesis ideas, thesis topics, subject related ideas, and subject related topics.

Privacy is also one of the important features in the Social Networking System in E-Learning, which help in individual privacy at the top priority. One has to take permission from the students, from whom he/she wants to become friend. If the friend request is accepted by the recipient then only one can became friends in the Social Network E-Learning system.

This all features will be developed in a Web-Based Application with ASP.NET as front-end and MS-SQL as back-end, which can help in communicating and helping individual students with each other mutually during their course.

The user send the data must read:

The data could come from the Java Applet or from a custom HTTP client program but it is usually entered on a web page.

Look up any other information about the request that is embedded in the HTTP request:

The particulars about browser capabilities, cookies and the host name of the requesting client are contained in this row.

Results could be generated:

That process may need converse to the executing cobra call or RMI to a database, computing the response directly or invoking a legacy application.

 HTTP response parameters are located:

What type of documents are getting back, seeting cookies and caching parameters.

To client the document is send back:

In any format like binary format, compressed format like gzip or in text format the document is send.

There is an expansion of JSP from the Servlet technology. With the Servlets we can do anything in the JSP. On the other hand, with the code JSP agree to mix static HTML. Finally think about the page which is produced but in general it is easier to read the code.

The static data is being printed to an output stream when the JSP page is individually changed to a normal Servlet in a nutshell. Still they both generate in the same output, in the Servlet real amount of code is written but there are many ways to decrease. We can read or write the JSP very easily. There is no difficulty in the usage of the JSP and Servlets because they have their individual roles and uses.

In excess of the CGI programming there are some of the benefits of Servlets and JSP

Efficiency

An original process is started when an HTTP request is received every time by using the CGI process. The scalability problem and performance are poor that we observe in the answer. Every time the java virtual machine is running by using the Servlets, unlike to a system process initially we will noticed that a java thread is formed by a Servlet.

Power

By these traditional CGI the power is anonymously allocated by the Servlets. Even it is not possible or very difficult the Servlets allow programmers to do things because complete family of java APIs have to be access.   The session path is manufactured we can share the data and maintained information easily by using the Servlets.

Security

The web browser’s sandbox for applets, in same way the restraining sandbox, by Servlet engine we can run the Servlets. We must take care for the malicious Servlets.

Portability

Practically the simple API is a Servlet API. The java platform improvement is taken by the Servlet API. These Servlets may be moved from platform to platform by almost all web servers which are maintained by simple API generally with out any modifications.

Active Server Pages Servlets and JSP

ACTIVE SERVER PAGES

On top of the Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) the understanding technology is built known as Active Server Pages. A single or multi scripts are added in the HTML page that is an ASP. Earlier, the page is sent to the client that is practiced on a Microsoft web server. Just like Common Gateway Interface the ASP is somewhat similar because both are involved in programs and they run the program in server. For any browser the HTML page is distributed, where as a normal HTML page is immediately structured by the server side script. By counting VB script, java script, Perl script a script is written in HTML file formed by ASP file it is named as” .asp” file suffix.

Only in the Microsoft Web server this ASP works but in other web servers it does not work. This is one of the most important benefits in the ASP technology.

SERVLETS and JSP

These Servlets answer to the Common Gateway Interface Programming because Servlets are java technologies. On the web server these programs run. The requirements of a Servlet are accomplished by a java machine because Servlet is a java class.

Server Extension Programs in Data Base Management Systems

SERVER EXTENSION PROGRAMS

By transforming among the database server and the web server we can see the benefits of principles in the last two tiers. And these principle’s benefits are also seen in the middle tier by using a server extension program. This explanation is one of the most essential one. For their regular boundary the interchangeability is maintained by the server extensions. With out any difficulties the database servers and web servers can be improved or replaced.

CGI for Server Extension Program

For interfacing the outside requests through the web servers, normally we are using the Common Gateway Interface. On the server the program or a script which is operated by a web server is permitted by a method known as Common Gateway Interface then for the web server the output is propelled. Either CGI is a programming language or a script is essentially recognized. To work together with the web server the database server is prepared. In Perl, C, and Tcl languages the CGI scripts are written, as a middleware it is provided.

In real-time we implement the CGI’s outside application and output information is energetically produced. The HTML documents are proceeding, when from the web clients there is a development in HTTP requests.  The CGI process must be happening by the Web server for every client request; this is one of the main drawbacks. With the DBMS every CGI process create an original connection, till the outcomes are distributed the web server have to be remained.

Database access on the Web using CGI scripts

Database access on the Web using CGI scripts

ISAPI &IDC FOR SERVER EXTENSION PROGRAM

For the internet servers instead of using the common gateway interfaces we are using the ISAPI (Internet Server Application Programming Interface) server extension. Because of these HTTP server ISA’s operate in the same address space but different like CGI applications.  Across the process boundaries the time intense communications could not be carried out, and the design of an extra processes are also not required these ISA’s have less transparency than CGI applications. When an extra process requires the memory both the additional and clean DLL’s may be taken down.

The Internet Server Application Programming Interface is an Internet Database Connector. For the Open Database Connectivity the databases are sustaining, which are allowed by the IDC connected with Web pages. In the Internet server we will see the IDC file which is constructed by the Web page developers. The information when we are login, SQL query to get back the data and the source name of ODBC are identified by the IDC file where as the IDC file is a text file. To get back the data from the ODBC compliant database the model is in HTML formatting template which is created by an HTX file. These HTX file is also formed by the Web page developers. This HTX file is referenced by the IDC file.

Some of the following steps are taking place when we apply for the IDC file.

1. From the IDC file to the IDC dynamic library the Web server exceeds, when the IDC file is demanding which is accepted by the web server.

2. The IDC file is understand by the IDC DLL. For the ODBC administrator program the data source and SQL statements are transitory.

3. For the database the SQL statement is exceeding, this SQL statement is suitable for the ODBC driver when it is passed by the ODBC administrator program.

4. Any row is proceeding to the IDC DLL when the query is run by the database.

5. With this HTX file the rows come again when we combine the IDC DLL, an ordinary HTML file is generated.

6. During the Internet or Intranet connection the HTML file is get back passed by the Web server to the browser.

REMOTE METHOD INVOCATION (RMI) EXTENSION PROGRAM

The java to java applications are constructed and spread by the programmer allowed by Remote Method Invocation. From an additional Java Virtual Machine or from the dissimilar hosts remote java objects are called. For an additional remote object the server can act as a client when the remote object is described by a client in a server.

WEB BASE FOR SERVER EXTENSION PROGRAM

With a web server the web base is closely included even it relies on special tags and SQL. For Document Object Model and dynamic HTML it is normally supported by the Web base. Even there is no involvement of server the dynamic HTML can dynamically change the ActiveX objects, HTML tags, java applets, tables, text and style sheets.  In any browser without any involvement of human the database can be created by web base and structured to update, add, search and view records. To use this add-on special viewers or plug-ins are not necessary.

From customer order status to complex catalog ordering applications and availability, product pricing, real estate listings the solutions are starting from single access presented by web base.   The one who is browsing the website can see anything in the database made by the users or by using the password protection only specific member can see. To the reports we are adding the hypertext links when the users make powerful isolated existing database.

The Three-Tiered Web Database in DBMS

THE THREE-TIERED WEB DATABASE

Among the client and the server the dispensation of the third layer is introduced in the three-tiered client/server architecture. On the PC-based LANs the three-tiered architecture is latest additional architecture. For the development of their works the three-tiered architecture facilitates for the clients and the servers while comparing with the two-tiered architecture this is an essential improvement in this architecture. The clients and servers are turned into thin clients and thin servers by mislay the weight of clients and servers additionally. This is because the superior modularity is completed but additionally the functions are divided. In the middle tier the transactions should be executed regularly.

And also in this layer some of the other methods are also put into an action, on mainframes the data is translating from legacy applications, protection is handled, and the information is created. As a latest type of system the two-tiered parent technologies are shared by the web database applications. But the three-tiered architecture supports the latest system. The server tier is absorbed by the database server where as the client tier is absorbed by the web browser. The web server and the expansion of the server program is grasping by a middle tier. The components become identical and enhance protection finally the network traffic is reduced.

 Three-tiered Web Database Application

                                    Three-tiered Web Database Application

For the Web server the data request or page request is send by the web browser. Then the data request is transported for the expansion of server program where as the page request is taken by the web server. The requests are then accepted by a server extension program and are converted into a form that which can be understood by the database server that is third tier.

The outcome of the server extension program is proceed in the next step such as query, update or insert are some of the assignments presented by the database server. The database result is accepted by the web browser which is converted by the server extension program at last it will send to the web server. The final result we will see in web browser which is passed by the web server.
