A Case Study on Port Folio Management MBA Project

Characteristics of Portfolio Management:The project report covers portfolio management of a HNI. These individuals have surplus money, which can be invested into various investment avenues. For example land, stock market, bank deposits, government securities etc., Each Investment avenue open to HNI’s has been evaluated on the basis of risk and return. No individual wants his/her savings to lie ideal and be eaten by inflation. These individuals are constantly looking for opportunities to invest their surplus money and get good returns. Professional investor advisors provide this service. They personally look into the risk appetite of the investor and design the best suited portfolio from him./her. For this purpose a case study was conducted on the ING Vysya’s 10 HNI’s to find out how they perceive different investment avenues. The bank faces low conversion rate of investment advisory services. Therefore after the study and analysis recommendations have been made to the RM’s on how to improve the service.

This has been done in the following sequence. First the HNI’s and their investment avenues were analyzed. Then the risk and return of each investment avenue was conducted. After which a sample of 10 HNI customers were visited. Analysis of these HNI’s showed some patterns in which these customers invest and how they perceive each investment instrument. On the basis of such data recommendations were made to the relationship managers.

Banks also provide professional investment advice. This has opened up a huge market for the advisors and has become very competitive.

ING Vysya Bank also provides professional advise to its clients. A common problem faced by the bank’s advisors is that they have a low conversion rate on the advice given by them.

Therefore a study and analysis has been conducted on a sample of 10 HNI’s of the bank to analyze their investment portfolio and risk appetite. An analysis of the bank’s products is also conducted to understand them in detail. Then the required suggestions are made to the investment advisors to improve the conversion rate and retain HNI’s.

Ratio Analysis of Vijai Electricals Ltd MBA Project

Transformers are classified into broad categories and classification according to Rating,  Core, Cooling, Voltage class. For our understanding, we consider only two types of transformers.

1)    Step-up Transformer and
2)    Step-down Transformer

Step-up Transformer: If the secondary voltage is more than the primary voltage, it is called step-up Transformer.
Step-down Transformer: If the secondary voltage is less than the primary voltage, it is called step-down transformer.
Transformers are among the most efficient machines 95% efficiency being common in lower capacity ranges, while an efficiency of the order of 99%is achievable in high capacity; transport constraints, handling facilities, etc. being the limiting factors. The lower limit is governed by the allowable no-load loss.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The study is based on the following objectives:

1. To study the growth and development of the transformer manufacturing industry in general.

2. To study the profile of the Vijai Electricals Ltd.

3. To evaluate the financial performance of the Vijai Electricals Ltd., by calculating Liquidity Ratio, Leverage Ratios, Turnover Ratios & Profitability Ratios.

METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY

The Data is  collected from the following two sources:

1. Primary Sources:

Most of the information is collected from:

-Personal observation by visiting Different departments.

-Personal Interview.

2. Secondary Sources:

1. Published material about VE Ltd., such as the annual reports of the last five years.

LIMITATIONS OF THE  STUDY

The Ratio Analysis of Vijai Electricals Ltd MBA Final Year Project study has been conducted in a systematic and comprehensive way so as to make the project work an enviable one. However, the topic under study may not be free from limitations due to the facts.

The major limitation of the project under study was time.  Since it was to be completed within a short period of time.  Which is not sufficient to undertake a comprehensive study.

Non-availability of complete information is also a limit.

SUMMARY

Transformer industry has been in existence in India for the past  one century. The public sector gaint BHEL used has been a leading player in the industry in post independence era. Since 1970s the private sector industries have made great strides and made their presence felt.

VEL since establishment in the year 1973 has made leaps and bounds and today has grown into one of the most sophisticated and quality conscious companies in the field of transformer manufacturing in India as well as Asia. Today it has well integrated facilities for the manufacture of transformers from 5kva rating to 10000 MVA. The company’s enviable achievement in terms of sales, profitability and market is due to its steadfast commitment to quality even during tough times. The company has fully integrated facilities due to the backward integration projects undertaken by the company during the last one decade.

Due to the integration projects the company  could cut down on costs  without compromising on quality. The Gross Profit margin of nearly 25%  is one of the visible parameters of this achievement.

FINDINGS

1.    The performance of the company has been very good since the past three years. It
has turned the corner from being a loss making unit for three years to a highly profit making concern.

2.    The Current Ratio of the company is very high due to high receivables and inventory, which is due to the nature of business. The Quick ratio is well above the 1:1 level due to high receivables.

3.    The Net Working Capital has also been increasing steadily and it reached a level o    of Rs.53 crore.

4.    The debt equity ratio has been decreasing steadily except for the year 2000-01 during which it has procured additional loans. The present level of 0.72 is very good for this type of industry.

5.    The Interest coverage ratio has also improved steadily and it’s 4.47 which indicates a very comfortable position.

6.    Inventory turnover ratio which indicates the efficient utilization of inventory has increased steadily over the past five years.

7.    The Debtors Turnover Ratio and the average collection period ratio have shown
steady improvement indicating an improved cash flow position.

8.    The fixed assets turnover ratio has also shown good improvement over the past
five years. The current level of 3.24 is very good given the level of assets of the company.

9.    The Gross Profit and Net Profit margin have increased significantly during the last
three years given the losses during the years 1999 & 2000. Since 2001 the improvement has been very  good.

A Study on Foreign Exchange and Its Risk Management

 Final Year MBA Project Objective:

Despite market expansion the profit generation is still a question mark, so companies have to search for areas of next generation like value added services, software enhancement and development other than just BPO services to survive in the market.

  • · In the present day economies are globalized and the stabilities of them is really at stake, the only rescue for the software companies is to improve their responsiveness to the changing scenarios.· Companies have to develop their services to the bench mark level or global standards so that they can have acceptance all over the world.
  • The troubles of many exporters are not a result of the volatility of the rupee but the unfavorably high-cost structure. Exporters are viable only when foreign exchange earnings get converted into more and more rupees. To improve rupee viability and preserve profits, exporters need to be efficient and productive and bring down aggregate rupee cost.A STUDY ON FOREIGN EXCHAGE AND ITS RISK MANAGEMENT
  • Poor viability will not be resolved by hedging. Considering an inefficient exporter, it requires a break even exchange rate of Rs.45 dollar to show profit. It will dazzle at a rate above Rs.45. It will fizzle at any exchange rate below Rs.45.
  • In case of forward contract. The forward contract locks in the exporter conversion of dollar revenues to rupee revenues at Rs.41, the market forward price per dollar. The market will surely not buy the exporters dollars at Rs.41 will be wholly ineffective exporters will be in serious trouble despite the perfect hedge.
  • The problem of viability will be solved only when the exporters break even moves down to Rs.41 per dollar. By contrast, an inefficient exporter that is viable at Rs.41 peer dollar can take advantage of the hedge.

  • The implicit dollar method will significantly preserve the dollar profitability exporters. The employees and managers of exporting firms will be paid implicitly in dollars. The cost to the company will be in dollars. But the payout will be in rupees and at the prevailing exchange rates. If the dollar weakens, the dollar costs of employees and managers will be paid out in rupees at say, RS.39, if the dollar strengthens the cost of employees and managers will be paid out in rupees at say, Rs.43.
  • To overcome these problems exporters should make good governance by making available superior human, social and business infrastructure even if the tax rates are high. Good governance lower the costs of operations and lowers the aggregate costs of doing business.

CSE Mini Project Report On Computer Network Systems

MINI-PROJECT-REPORT-ON-COMPUTER-NETWORK-SYSTEMSA Computer Network mini project allows sharing of resources and information among interconnected devices. A network is a set of devices connected by media links. The links connecting the devices are often called communication channels.

For effective and efficient network, it must meet the important features like performance, reliability and security. The main purpose of networking is resource sharing and communication. The advantages of this computer networking are Easy Backup, Low cost  and  Security.Network model tells us how the computer can be inter-connected .The two best known standards are the OSI model and the internet model.

There are the two types of connections in the computer networks-:

1)                  Peer to peer

2)                  Client to server

The hardware required by the networking group is Transmission technology and Scale. According to scale the network are divided into three categories:-

  • LAN
  • WAN
  • MAN

Network topology is the layout pattern of interconnections of the various elements (links, nodes etc.) of a computer network. They are classified into three types. Physical Topology, Logical Topology and Signal Topology.

In a Network system connecting different computers and different network components with each other using a wired or wireless systems method is called as network switching system. There are three types of switching networks they are circuit switching, message switching and packet switching. Computer networking provides several important services, both to organization and individual used. These services can be provided in two ways:-connection oriented and connection less oriented.
