Seminar Topic and Report on Session Initiation Protocol

Introduction to Seminar Topic on Session Initiation Protocol:

It was first introduced in 1996. It is a set of utilities and protocols that are used for online gaming, text, voice, chat, and video. User requires connecting with wide area network.  They allow multiuser to connect with. SIP uses public switched telephone to connect with the user. SIP connections have three types of three types of conferencing like: full mesh: it means connecting with every user and him individual copy of the data stream. Mixers: it takes several media stream and sends them to the user, data are mixed and combined. N/W layer multicast: nothing is scaled in this connection as they are used in the conferencing.

Four types of user participate in the SIP session: user agents: they are the applications who connect the client that initiates the SIP request. They are used in the multimedia conferences. Proxy, proxy server:  they act an intermediate between user and client for the receiving and sending request. They process the information and then respond. Redirect server: they accepts the request and then to reply to other user. It doesn’t respond to the calls. Registrar: it accepts the registrar request.

Applications: it has given rise to generation of new types of smart phone. With the help of the technology now smart phones also support the video conferencing.

SIP request and responses contain keys that provide encryption to the data, support three forms of keys: end to end key for message body and sensitive header. Hop by hopfor preventing if someone tracking to whom call. And hop by hop for to hide the request already taken. They encrypt the entire request so that eavesdroppers cannot see to whom we are calling. They are end to end encrypted by splitting message to be sent.
