Seminar Report on Dual Core Processing

Introduction to Seminar Topic on Dual Core Processing:

The main objective of this paper is to give idea of dual core cpu. As the usage of computers are increasing are day to day, he needs the cpu which can perform faster. As a result, Dual core was developed. A dual-core CPU has two independent processors and their caches and cache controllers on a single silicon chip.

Brief into design and working Dual Core CPU:

The multi-core processor is plugged directly into a single processor socket. The main idea of placing two processors on a single chip is divided in a conquer policy. To provide a better performance to user, software used has threading functionality. The two technologies used in dual core processors are symmetric multi-Processing and Hyper Threading.

By using Symmetric multi processing two processors can share information through a system bus and divides the work load among themselves. Hyper threading is used to reduce the problem of missing memory cache requests which can slow down the operation of the processors.

Advantages and Disadvantages:

Dual Core Cpu’s uses less power when compared with single core processors. This dual core uses less PCB space. Dual core CPU’S have high performance in terms of cache operations. These Cpu’s can deliver a result with minimal risk of errors. Dual core Cpu’s require operating system support. Use of multiprocessing requires application software support.
