Smart materials are one among those unique materials, which can change its shape or size simply by adding a little bit of heat, or can change from a liquid to a solid almost instantly when near a magnet. These materials include piezoelectric materials, magneto-rheostatic materials, electro-rheostatic materials, and shape memory alloys (SMA’s).  Shape memory alloys (SMA’s) are metals, which exhibit two very unique properties, pseudo-elasticity (an almost rubber-like flexibility, under-loading), and the shape memory effect (ability to be severely deformed and then return to its original shape simply by heating).

Advantages:

Disadvantages:

  • Relatively expensive to manufacture
  • Have poor fatigue problem
  • Cannot survive for more cyles unlike a steel component.

This Robotics Mckibbens Muscle Latest Mech Seminar on the design of a biorobotic actuator, i.e soft arms for robots to prevent them from damage.

Industrial robots, which are  heavy moving bodies, show high risk of damage when working and also sessions in dense environment of other robots. Data from several vertebrate species (rat, frog, cat, and human) are used to evaluate the performance of a McKibben pneumatic actuator.

The main advantage of this engine is its capability to use any type of fuel and the emission of no exhaust gases.

Stirling engine shows a greater potential over any other type of engine existing today.

  • There is no exhaust of gases as in case of normal piston engines.
  • These engines are quieter in operation.
  • Gas inside the engine never leaves the engine.
  • The external heat source could be anything-even heat from our hand.

This Neural Networks in Advanced Manufacturing Technology proposes a method of intelligent controlling of injection molding using Neural Network based control unit.

Neural Networks offer pattern recognition based intelligent control. They process data in a parallel manner and thus they are very fast.Since neural networks learn solely based on training data it is possible to obtain inverse models of manufacturing process by simply obtaining the training data from a process model and presenting it to the neural networks in an inverse manner.

This simulation of neural network control scheme may be done by using soft wares like MATLAB, TG MOLD etc, This  project  uses “FORWARD MODELLING”of neural   network .

The aim is to identify the feasibility of obtaining an intelligent control scheme that can learn the inverse model of a manufacturing process and react in a real-time to take corrective actions during fabrication.

The project demonstrates the capabilities of this process model/Neural Network based control unit in several experiments that integrate the control method with a reliable flow progression sensing sub system .
